Winter Fun for the Family
With the 2022 Winter Olympic Games set to start next week, we are reflecting on our own Olympic memories from 2010, our world-renowned North Shore mountains and beloved local winter venues. With plenty of time left in the winter season, take advantage of the snow and milder weather by visiting the city’s best destinations for skating, snowboarding, skiing and more.
Ice Skating at the Shipyards Skate Plaza
A 20-minute walk from North Harbour along the Spirit Trail, skate with friends and family at this renowned outdoor ice rink against a beautiful backdrop of downtown Vancouver and the North Shore mountains. The Skate Plaza is open daily from 1:00 PM – 8:00 PM and offers free admission as well as skate rentals.
Grouse Mountain
Grouse Mountain, winner of The Georgia Straight’s ‘Best of Vancouver’ award in 2019, offers incredible outdoor adventures. A short 15 minute drive from North Harbour, winter is in full swing with downhill activities, snowshoeing, outdoor skating and a magical light walk.
Cypress Mountain
An official 2010 Olympic Venue, Cypress Mountain is best known for over 50 alpine ski runs (many accessible for night skiing) and 19km of stunning cross country trails.
Seymour Mountain
This beautiful Provincial Park features viewpoints on 40 marked trails overlooking Vancouver, Mount Baker and the Indian Arm Provincial Park. Great for kids and beginners, Seymour is a perfect destination for skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing and snowshoeing.
